Memories don't come cheap
Having been in the business of weddings for a good part of my adult working life, not much to do with weddings surprises me. However the cost of wedding photography gave moment for pause. I was surprised to learn that most quality photographers bill from 4500 and up for six hours of photography and editing.
I was even more surprised to see on several photographer's websites that couples can register for their photography. Requesting that guests contribute toward the photography as a gift. Very interesitng. I can't say that I have ever heard of that before. I am not sure how I feel about that concept. While the photography provides memories of the weding day that will be cherished forever, and therefore it makes sense as a registry, it is also a service for the wedding. Asking guests to contribute toward the vendor bill is a bit awkward... no?
Well, while I ponder this thought, I will share with you, some of my favortie photographers that I have come upon thus far. Photography is a really important aspect of the day for me. I will only be married once, and dont want mere photographs to remember it by, but images that capture the essence of my friends and families. Works of art. This takes intuitin and skill on the part of the photographer, as well as editing expertise.
Have a peak at Andree Kehn. I really like her work. I am finding that I prefer the photojournalistic approach over the "typical" wedding photography. If I peruse the site and find wedding after wedding of the same cookie cutter photos, I scratch them off the list. Andree has a nice style. Her photography tells a story. It provides insight into the people and their feelings. The shots in her gallery are esspecially well composed and carefully edited. nice!
Eight hours of coverage is 4000.00
Take a look at Amy Salerno. She has a nice look and good compostion.
Her prices arent clearly stated but it seems like 6 hours of coverage is about 2000.00
Roxanne Ashley photography out of Tosham, Maine has some really nice photography displayed on her site.
Six hours of coverage is currently on special for 2200.00
I found this really nice photojournalst duo out of ironically Maine and Vermont called Eve Event. I realy like their non invasive approach to capturing moments.
Packages begin at 2000.00

Hi Marie,
I just followed my Google Analytics report back to your blog page - thanks so much for the lovely feedback and the link to our site. The first part of your About section sounds a lot like me and Judd, the other half of the photojournalist duo. We are both twentysomethings with New England roots, and have been together for going on six years - we don't have dogs yet, we just like to borrow other people's. :) Anyways, just wanted to wish you luck on your journey and thanks again!
Cheers,
Monica Donovan

Thanks for your kind words, and just wanted to let you and your readers know, I have updated my galleries, take a peek. :) And its a common mistake on my name but its Roxanne Ashey (there is no"L" in the last name).
Have an amazing wedding! :)
Roxanne
HiI
Thank you so much for the shout-out! I really appreciate it!
I wanted to point out a couple of things about your review. First of all, I am a "she" not a he! :) My name, Andree, is very unusual, and does tend to make people think I am a man, so I put a photo on my "About Me" page. I might need to think about getting a more feminine shot up there! lol
Secondly, I have recently introduced a seven hour package that includes a small print resolution disc for $2395. I understand that not everyone is in a financial position to get al the bells and whistles and albums with their coverage. I adore providing coverage with an album, as I think it leaves you with a more finished complete product of your day, but I know it's not always in teh cards.
Again, I really really appreciate the mention on your blog!
Thanks,
Andree
Out of the four, my favorites are Roxanne Ashley (if anyone else wants to check out her site: http://www.roxannesweddings.com/) and Eve Event.
Eve Event seems more like "works of art," as you say but they still capture the people and feeling of the wedding, and I think Roxanne Ashley's galleries have good examples of capturing the people at the event.
While Andree Kehn does have very beautiful photos, I found that a lot of them seemed to be more about the scenery (beaches, fields, etc). Personally, I would want the photography to focus on the people, since that's what I'd want to remember from my wedding.
Final vote, I say Eve Event.
