Did you know that there are traditional gifts to give for specific anniversaries?  The first year is paper!

I did a bit of research to try to figure out why this is, and came up empty handed. My best guess is that the average couple can't afford much more than paper after spending all of their dough on a wedding 12 months prior. haha Who knows. Either way, paper is a splendid gift.  Just think of all of the possibilities, note cards, a book, a poem.

Better than any of those ideas however, are these absolutely adorable paper carvings from Papercutsbyjoe on Etsy.  Oh la la... take a look at the adorable pieces in his store.  Choose from his original selection of sentimental, creative artwork. He has framed pieces available for simple gift giving, or customize the gift further with a cute vintage frame. I appreciate his selection of a darling couple riding a bicycle for a very affordable 40.00 up to some super amazing lager format artwork for displaying in your living room, office or dining room. He has a bit of something for everyone.

Oh Joe... your paper cuts are adorable and truly wonderful gifts. I hope some of my readers spread the word about these fabulous works of art!

altRecently I discovered this amazing website, Wishpot.  If there were ever a website I wish I had invented, it would be this one!  In my casual perusing of registry websites I found Wishpot and was hooked right away.  The premise is simple, have a registry that your friends and family can access, and put anything... literally anything in it.  Now isn't that a clever idea?

I have never been much for registries and have often avoided other people's registries, as I have always found them a bit inpersonal.  However, now that it is my turn, I am pretty excited about it.  Of course... who doesn't like recieving a gift here and there (::wink::). Being able to choose things that you truly need or want is totally awesome.  This is where Wishpot comes in.  You simply make an account on their website and download a button that is added into your web browser (i.e. firefox or flock).  Whenever you see and item on-line that you want to add to your registry, click on the big green Wishpot button and voila! it is added to your registry.  You have the option to write a comment, indicate how much you want the item, include the price and even add it to a custom list.  Genious  simply genious.  AND, as if that was not enough, you can also set up certain big ticket items such as honeymoons for contributions.  This way guests can feel comfortable contributing towards a portion of a large gift.  In my extended family, people sometimes get in on one item together.  Wishpot makes it simple so those people don't have to get together and pool money, but rather contribute via credit card from the comfort of their home computers.  Wishpot tells the bride and groom who contributed toward the gift, so they know who to thank!

There is this other handy feature to Wishpot, is the Picks List.  The picks list allows people to simply make lists of things that they like. This is exactly what I have started doing.  I have a list (or will with time) associated with most of the categories on this blog.  Once I add some more items to my lists, I will add a small widget to each of those category pages, allowing you to instantly find purchase information for all of the fun things that I talk about here, plus some that I don't.

They have invited me to be a Wedding Expert on their site, which I think is totally cool.  I think this site is just dandy and I think that you will too.  A modern registry for modern people
